SMART Women's Initiative is a survivor-led organization with vibrant and passionate youths working to ensure we stay true to our vision. We may be small in size but our impact is huge - we experienced GBV at firsthand level therefore, we are building a community of hope, love and safety for female survivors of rape, sexual and domestic abuse. We are intentional unconventional, innovative and inclusive on our approach that works for our sisterhood.

Amira Catherine Koroma - Founder & Executive Director

Amira is a survivor of sexual child abuse, attempted rape and other ordeals. She's an unapologetic feminist known for her dedication and passion towards ending disability discrimination,  achieving gender equality, women's empowerment, safety and protection for females. She holds a Bachelor degree in History and Political Science from Fou

Amira is a survivor of sexual child abuse, attempted rape and other ordeals. She's an unapologetic feminist known for her dedication and passion towards ending disability discrimination,  achieving gender equality, women's empowerment, safety and protection for females. She holds a Bachelor degree in History and Political Science from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone and currently pursuing her postgraduate degree in Psychology at Liverpool John Moore University, UK.

She's a recipient of several awards. She's a member of the UN Women National Gender Youth Activists, and Plan International West and Central Africa Youth Taskforce

She is an unapologetic change maker who's passion and commitment is dedicated towards the mental wellbeing/wellness of female survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. Assiatu is an avid teen advocate on girls education and equal rights and she holds a diploma in Gender & development studies from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone and a student at the same institution pursing an undergraduate degree on the same course. As a first time professional, Assiatu is serving her society through SMAR

Surviving illegal migration to Oman as a housemaid, gang raped, beaten and battered, Fatmata is using her firsthand experience to help other survivors own their stories, heal with dignity, overcome trauma and seek justice. She is committed and true to the cause of ensuring safety for women and girls in Sierra Leone. She's studying Gender

Mariama Yansaneh was born and raised in Sierra Leone. She attended Forum for Africa Women Educationalist Primary School ( F. A. W. E), proceeded to secondary school where she served as the Senior Prefect during Junior School and the Head Girl at the Senior Level. 


She was the President of the News Journal club in her school, where she aime

She was the President of the News Journal club in her school, where she aimed at nurturing journalism skill. She demonstrated her leadership skill by working with different schools across the country to promote students journalism. 

Ms Yansaneh worked at the various media stations as a teen radio presenter on a program called “Pikin Voice” and advocated for less privileged children . Her aim is to amplify the voices of children who are suffering from Sexual & Gender Based Violence. 

Moreover, Ms. Yansaneh gained admission at Fourah Bay college, University of Sierra Leone. Presently, she’s a final year student pursuing a Bachelors degree in Social Work

Amidst others, Ramatu is the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone National Association of the Deaf

Amidst other roles, Ramatu is the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone National Association of the Deaf, former Vice President of the Deaf African Football Confederation.

Agatha Ada Levi

Agatha is a survivor of university campus rape and a champion fighting to end violence against women and girls. She holds a master degree in Development Management from Van Hall Larenstein University in the Netherlands. She's a fellow of the Mandela Washington fellowship and has attended several international conferences. She is an awardee of the 2018 Sustainable Development award.
